The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey on Thursday advanced a series of long-awaited construction projects at the region’s three main airports.

The board approved $445 million for construction and planning work at John F. Kennedy International Airport, which is about to undergo a massive overhaul of its roadways, taxiways, terminals and gates.

They also approved new AirTrains at LaGuardia Airport and Newark Liberty International Airport, with each project receiving $2.1 billion.
