Lakeland Linder International Airport has received the final funding needed for perhaps its most significant upgrade since its creation during World War II.

The Federal Aviation Administration has announced a grant of $8.5 million, completing the pool of $27 million in combined funds needed to pay for fortifying the airport’s main runway.

The grant follows an award of nearly $10.2 million the airport received in September from the FAA through its regular Airport Improvement Program funding.
