Five Georgia airports have been chosen to share $12.6 million in federal grants for safety and infrastructure upgrades.

The Airport Improvement Grants announced for Georgia include $3.53 million for modifications to the airport terminal in Columbus. The rest will go to smaller airports in the state.

The airport in Cartersville is being awarded $2.73 million for improvements to its runway safety area. Another $2.4 million is going to the Hazlehurst airport to rehabilitate its runway. And $2 million apiece will go to the Perry-Houston County airport for construction of an apron and to Kaolin Field in Sandersville for an upgraded runway.
